Lisa J Schmidt

Law Geek

What does a 50-page Supreme Court opinion with two dissents mean to you? For Attorney Lisa J. Schmidt, it’s a fun, mind-opening opportunity. Lisa is an attorney licensed to practice in Michigan with a long history of creative and professional writing. With offices in Ferndale, Michigan and Glendale, California, she provides legal research, writing, and drafting services to her fellow attorneys, and to individuals who need a little help to represent themselves in Michigan family courts.

“Legal writing is storytelling, guiding your readers – judges and clients alike – to the legal answers they need and making it hard to say no.”

Writing as a Passion

Lisa Schmidt is a writer first. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing (English) from Michigan State University and was on Law Review at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. She maintains several blogs – her own and as a ghostwriter for other attorneys – and writes long-form fiction novels in her spare time. Lisa is never at a loss for words and knows how to make difficult topics easy for the public to understand.

Taking the Burden Out of Blogging

Lisa has owned and operated her own law firm since 2011. She knows how important content marketing is to the modern small business. Blogging has always been a big part of her own firm’s financial success. Now, she wants to help others accomplish the same thing. Over the years, Lisa has had countless conversations with fellow lawyers who say they know they should be marketing their firms online but can’t blog, don’t like to write, or just don’t have the time. She provides these attorneys with an outsourced, customized blog-writing resource to give them an edge over the canned blogs they may have been buying from other companies.

Going Full Geek Over Brief Writing

For many lawyers, the idea of writing a legal brief is a burden or at least an inconvenience. Lisa loves it. The more complicated the legal question, the more Lisa geeks out over finding the answer. With her background in legal research and writing and nearly 10 years’ experience writing trial and appellate briefs, she can help over-burdened attorneys find the answer to tough legal questions, and draft briefs that are persuasive to judges and clients alike.
